Thoughts: 30-June-2009

The last day of June and the first day that it felt like summer here in Groton, CT. I cannot believe how fast this year is going.

I watched episodes 3 and 4 of Merlin last night via DVR. This is a pretty good series and has some nice special effects. The actor who plays Arthur is doing a nice job of walking the line between being a prat and being a nice guy. I really enjoy this series and hope that it building an audience.

The Closer had a nice episode with some wonderful comic touches. This is a great series and is very enjoyable. TNT is going to have, in a few weeks, three night of great TV from the 9 to 11 pm slot. Monday, The Closer and Raising the Bar, Tuesday HawthoRNe and Saving Grace, and Wednesday Leverage and Dark Blue. Dark Blue is a new show starting up about a deep undercover police unit, looks interesting.

Rockem Sockem Robots 2 is making tons of money and we will being seeing a third installment of this crap. Oh bother, thank God there are some good movies coming out like Public Enemies to watch.

Our department summer interns 22 and 24 have been cracking me up lately. Especially 22, who does not want me to write about her in my blog and has threaten to start up a blog about me, who she will refer to as 49. I said to her, and you probably will get as many readers as I do, after all you did not come back after your first visit.

These guys make me laugh and I wonder where my youth has gone.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 29-June-2009

Episode 11 of Harper's Island had me screaming at the TV "Shoot Him". Four people get killed, two were the only characters I cared about, the English doctor and his girlfriend, and all these guys got guns to John Wakefield's knife/sword and nobody can kill him. This series has really gotten stupid.

I have to watch the two episodes of Merlin that were on NBC last night along with an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Also have the latest episode of True Blood to watch.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 28-June-2009

Excellent Saturday night of TV viewing on BBC America. Primeval was a great episode and the Doctor Who special, The Next Doctor, was very good. I have really enjoyed David Tennant's portrayal as the Tenth Doctor and he will be missed as he leaves the role to be replaced by Matt Walsh as the Eleventh Doctor.

Casting has always been pretty good for Doctor Who, the actors have done a lot to make the role their own. Patrick Troughton really set the stage with his unique portrayal as the Doctor which allowed other actors to redefine the role when they were casted.

The new series has done a great job of updating the storyline with more adult themes and harder edged story lines. I look forward to the new episodes, starting with the July 27th one on BBC America.

I have the 11th episode of Harper's Island to watch today via DVR. Looks like CBS is skipping next weekend and doing the final two episodes on July 11.

Tonight I have the DVR recording back to back episodes of Merlin on NBC as I plan to watch Law & Order: Criminal Intent at 8 pm on USA and then the rerun of Cold Case at 9 on CBS that I have not seen. Then back to USA for In Plain Sight at 10 pm. True Blood (HBO), I will be watching later this week via Comcast On Demand. Looks like the new episodes will not be forthcoming over this holiday weekend starting on Thursday night.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 27-June-2009

As I am not interested in seeing Rockem Sockem Robots 2 (Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen) I will be catching up on DVDs and watching movies that I want to see. Movies made for adults with real plots and real acting.

I watched American Chopper last night, seems that Mikey is currently working without a contract and he is not asking to go on promotion tours and do PR work anymore. When he did have a contract, he was asked to go all the time. I don't really understand this twist that the show has taken. Are the producers trying to make OCC look bad and Sr unsympathetic? Given that their success is due to the fanbase, I wonder what they think they are accomplishing by alienating that base?

Interesting article in the latest issue of The Atlantic. Newsweek and Time's circulation is sinking fast and these publications are trying to revamp to make themselves more appealing. Yet, the British newsweekly, The Economist, and The Week are doing great. Both these publications have seen increases in their circulation, The Economist is poised to go past Newsweek.

Why the success for these two publications? They provide a summary of the news across the world. The Economist will cover news in countries located in Africa and Asia that you never get to hear about. The Week presents a news summary and then recaps opinions from different sources, e.g. a political story will have recaps from both liberal and conservative news sources. This is what people want and these publications are giving it to them.

I was a longtime subscriber to Newsweek and gave up as it became irrelevant. I switched to Time, and it went the same way. US News and World Report ended its weekly print publication. So now I subscribe to the Week. I used to subscribe to the Economist, but they tend to be a bit anti-American in their editorials.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 26-June-2009

Surfing the Internet today, I noted on TLC Turbo American Chopper MB, that a lot of folks were unhappy with the events of the latest episode. I have not seen it yet, but it looks like the Four Horsemen are screwing with Mikey. Interesting.

These reality shows are so fake and scripted. Big drama on Jon and Kate plus 8 with announcement of their separation and upcoming divorce. They make $75,000 per episode and have a bunch of assistants who work behind the scenes in taking care of the family. Kate, after getting rave reviews when she was photographed in a bikini while on vacation, decided to wear one around the house just when a bunch of paparazzi were there to take photographs. I saw them on The superficial.com which is a great site to check out.

I am sure that the psychodrama soap opera on American Chopper was agreed to by the Teutals to improve ratings. How real it is, not very as far as I can see.

Someone told that that the new Transformers film was 2 and a half hours long. Are you fraking kidding me? Who wants to watch Rockem Sockem Robots for that long?

Oh well.

Thoughts: 25-June-2009

One thing that I have noticed this summer, is how my TV viewing has been greatly improved. I cannot believe how many good shows are on right now.

Sunday: True Blood (HBO), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (USA), In Plain Sight (USA), and Merlin (NBC) all new and all very good. And I also have been watching Cold Case (CBS) in reruns in order to catch up with this show.

Monday: Weeds (Showtime), Nurse Jackie (Showtime), The Closer (TNT), and Raising the Bar (TNT) all new. Edie Faco is wonderful in Nurse Jackie, and while I am watching the show, I still am puzzled by the appeal folks have for Weeds.

Tuesday: HawthoRNe (TNT) and Saving Grace (TNT) again both are very good.

Wednesday: Monsterquest (History Channel), not very good, this is kind of a secret pleasure for me. But they were really reaching on yesterday's Last Dinosaur episode.

Thursday: American Chopper (TLC), Burn Notice (USA), and Royal Pains (USA) are this day's viewing. American Chopper jumped the shark a long time ago, I watch it to see how bad it gets. This is offset by the excellent USA shows I watch on this night.

Friday: McLaughlin Group (PBS). Channel 2 out of Boston shows this program at 7:30 pm on this night. I like getting caught up on the news topics of the week, but Eleanor Clift drives me crazy with the stupid drivel that comes out of her screeching mouth. And no other liberal says things one tenth as stupid as Clift. Why she is kept on this show is beyond my understanding.

Saturday: Babar (NBC), Harper's Island (CBS), and Primeval (BBC America) finishes off the week for me. I used to watch Babar on HBO and was surprised to see that NBC shows this on Saturday morning. Harper's Island will be ending soon. Primeval is a great show and BBC America has a lot more coming. A new Doctor Who this Saturday night and a Torchwood miniseries coming up in July.

Who needs the fall, lots of good shows on now.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 24-July-2009

I just came back from WalMart and was surprised to see that Reaper Season 2 was already out on DVD. That was pretty fast, it seems DVD sets are coming out sooner and sooner. And to think at one time, people thought that nobody would want to buy a complete season on DVD. Thanks to the X-Files for starting that.

I also noticed that WalMart was selling two sets as one for $19.95. Bones Season 1 and Saving Grace Season 1 were paired, as was the first seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Pretty nice bargains there.

Tonight on Monsterquest we have a show on The Last Dinosaur. Wonder what that could be? I remember a cheesy movie starring Richard Boone called the Last Dinosaur. I wonder if we have a tie-in here.

Sci Fi Channel is being renamed SyFy. Why, who knows maybe they need to justify putting ECW wrestling on their network. A&E should change its name to Crap TV given all the crap like Dog the Bounty Hunter and Growing up Gotti they show.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 23-June-2009

One on the summer interns read yesterday's blog and she said that I lied, she is 22. 22 is a big Oklahoma Sooner fan and I was goofing on her on how my team, Penn State, was far superior and beat up on the Sooners in the two games they played. So she looks it up and busts me for my lie. I tell you nobody trusts anybody anymore.

Both 22 and 24 are from Northern Michigan in the UP, and both are excellent hard workers. We lucked out.

Last night I watched the first two episodes of Merlin, the new show that premiered on NBC this past Sunday night. Great shows with some very strong performances. I liked Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Uther Pendragon and John Hurt is doing the voice of the Great Dragon who has been giving Merlin advice. The actors who play Merlin and Arthur are very good. I hope the ratings are good for this show.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 22-June-2009

Work kind of took the fun out of my hibernation weekend. Did get amused by our summer interns today. They are 21 and 24 years old and the first one told me that you cannot do a roundhouse kick in a mini skirt wearing rock star shoes. This was just part of their weekend adventures. Oh to be young again.

In Plain Sight had a great episode where Mary finally got one over the idiot FBI agent who has been trying to bust her sister. What a lame case they put together and the con job they tried to do as the plea bargain, obviously nobody watches Law & Order in that show.

Will be watching Merlin tonight, NBC had two episodes and of course the stupid US Open (golf) had to run over. I was able to record it, I just wish they would keep the leisure sports on schedule.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 21-June-2009

Hibernation Day Two.

Watched the latest episode from American Chopper, they built a bike for the Abu Dhabi police force in the UAE. The Bike was one of their better builds where they actually did some creative fabrication. Then the bike got sent back for a major do over. Never really explained why that happened. Sr and his management team traveled there to unveil the bike and to look into a business opportunity to open a OCC themed restaurant.

The funny thing is that Steve the OCC GM did not want Mikey to come along because he may embarrass OCC. So Sr goes, shows off his tattoos in a country where the religion forbids that, makes an insensitive comment about someone stealing his shoes when removing them to enter the Mosque, and then compares their trained falcon to a homing pigeon. And who does everyone ask for when they get there, Mikey and Jr. Pretty sad.

Harper's Island killed off four more people in episode ten. This includes the two dumbest Washington State Police officers ever along with the sheriff. Oh and John Wakefield is still alive and now has more than doubled his previous killing spree. Three more episodes to go.

Also watched the series finale of The Unusuals. Good show and a shame that ABC cancelled it.

I also caught up on my comic books last night. The upcoming Green Lantern Blackest Night crossover leaves me cold and disinterested. What is up with all these Orange, Blue, Red, and now Black Lanterns? I liked the stories that featured Hal Jordon using his powers to solve a crime or vanquish a villain. This is just too much babble.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 20-June-2009

Hibernation in the apartment going as planned. I do have to go to WalMart and Super Stop & Shop later for groceries and other stuff, but then it will be just me here all alone.

Last night I watched Chess in Concert (PBS, Great Performances). Very well done, the songs were great and this is available as a DVD and CD which I will be picking up. PBS shows a lot of this stuff and it is nice to have that available. A&E used to show programs like this, now they show Dog the Bounty Hunter instead.

Also caught up on a bunch of my comic books. Last issue of the current run of Moon Knight, I thought that they went a bit overboard with the character over this run. Moon Knight has been better written in the past, I wonder if they will bring him back in another series or have him pop up in the Dark Reign crossover storyline.

Also read the Incredible Hercules and this book is starting to hit the mark of keeping my interest. The story is getting interesting and I look forward to reading more. I also have been reading Vincent Price Presents, which is a horror comic with Price as the narrator. Pretty interesting stories so far, and I see that Dark Horse is bringing Creepy back, the classic horror anthology comic produced by Warren years ago.

Surfing the Internet this morning, I read an interview with Tyler Labine and Bret Harrison on Newsrama. No information on any syndication deal for the show, Labine talked about the show he will be doing for Fox, Sons of Tucson, Harrison has some other projects in line. Does not look good for Reaper getting a third season from that interview.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 19-June-2009

I plan to hibernate in my apartment this weekend and this is what I am looking forward to.

Watching my DVR recording of Great Performances which has a revival of Tim Rice's great musical Chess. Never have seen it and looking forward to checking it out. Idina Menzeil who was so good in Rent and Wicked stars in it.

New episodes of Primeval (BBC America) and In Plain Sight (USA). Primeval is a great show where this season we have seen two original cast members leave and new twists and turns coming each episode. The new episode of In Plain Sight, Mary's sister is arrested by the FBI for murder, and we may get to see the Mary finally get the FBI to fix her house.

Catching up on comic books, I have two weeks worth to read.

Sleep.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 18-June-2009

Not a lot to say today.

I watched a couple of episodes of Mission: Impossible Season 1 last night. I was recording Great Performances off of PBS to watch over the weekend. Steven Hill plays Dan Briggs in Season 1 who acts as the Mission Leader. Peter Graves did not start until Season 2.

Mission: Impossible was a great series and has inspired a lot of shows, USA's Burn Notice and TNT's Leverage for example. It is really great that these shows can get a second life via DVD box sets.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 17-June-2009

Pet Peeve.

Why can't cable companies give you a choice in what you get? It seems you have to subscribe to a bunch of channels to get the one you want. Why not say, for x dollars you get x channels of your choice, if you want more, you pay for more. In this time of computers, we should be able just to buy and get what we want.

Three shows I wish to comment on.

Weeds: Mary Louise Parker has complained about a topless scene that she did for this show getting on the Internet, something she regrets doing, In the latest episode, her Mexican drug kingpin and the person who impregnated her, put her over a table, pulls her skirt done, and has forced sex with her. Then he leaves her laying on the table, nude from the waist down as his chief henchman comes in to take her home. And Parker is worried about a topless scene making it on the Internet? Weeds has become less of a comedy and more dark and violent. I do not like this trend.

True Blood: Season 2 opened up to the best ratings HBO has gotten since The Sopranos. Anna Paquin is very daring in her sex scenes, she leaves nothing out in these very explicit scenes. Very hot, and she is unbelievable hot. Very interesting start and I love this series. I also think it is quite ironic that the theme song was recorded years ago and passed unnoticed and now is a hit. One has to wonder how many gems are out there waiting to be discovered.

HawthoRNe: The new TNT series starring Jada Pinkett Smith started last night. Interesting show from the perspective of the nurses. Nurses are usually unnoticed in doctor shows unless they are sleeping with a doctor. Smith is doing some great acting in this series and I look forward to more episodes.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 16-June-2009

Pet Peeves.

Why do networks let shows run over 60 min, it is not like you are getting any more of the show? Sunday night I recorded Cold Case and when I went to watch it on my DVR, I saw the CBS let Super Password run over by five minutes. While I still got to see how the show ended, I missed the last couple of minutes. ABC does this all the time with Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and Lost, and for what reason, so they can jam in more commercials. And not even new ones, the same fraking ones over and over again. TV networks, I am less likely to buy a product when you hammer me over and over again with the same fraking commercial. At least be creative and do some different ones. But I really wish that networks, in this day of DVRs, would start and end shows on the hour.

And why doesn't the NFL let the NFL ticket go to cable instead of that BS Direct TV monopoly? I know fans who hate Direct TV but want to see their favorite team. A Steeler fan who is a friend of my here in CT, gets Direct TV for that reason. And the Steelers tend to be on several national telecasts, but can he just buy the games that are not being televised that week locally, no, he has to buy the whole package. ESPN has a college game plan where each week you can do a $9.95 pay per view and watch all the college football games that ESPN has on its schedule for that Saturday, I caught a couple of Penn State games that way. Why can't the NFL do the same, wouldn't they make more money that way?

And why do TV networks have to put all the popular shows on at the same time? Why not break it up over the other days of the week? Comcast has a On Demand feature where selected CBS shows are on for free, NBC has shows for 99 cents a piece to watch (which surprises me, as nobody wants to watch NBC for free), and the cable networks like BBC American, TNT, USA, and FX have shows on demand for free. Still not everything is available so that people can watch all that they want. I guess that is why Hulu is on the Internet.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 15-June-2009

One thing that I liked about the movie, The Haunted Mansion, was this quote by the Jennifer Tilly character: You try You fail, You try You fail, but the only true failure is when you stop trying.

Hide in Plain Sight had a good episode but I am more excited to check out next week when the FBI return to duel with Mary. They arrest her sister for murder, and Mary looks pissed off about it. Mary McCormack is so good in this show, and Fred Weller who plays Marshall is just as good. Great casting takes a show a long way.

I will be checking out True Blood tonight along with a new episode of the Closer. Who needs the fall, we are getting better stuff to watch for the summer time.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 14-June-2009

Harper's Island just passed the 9th episode mark, wiht 4 more to go. The big revelation is that Abby's mom had a baby with John Wakefield, the serial killer from 7 years ago. Of course the dimwits all think that Abby is the kid, guess it never occurred to any of them that this could be Abby's half sibling who is now killing everyone. This show must take place in a universe where nobody watched any slasher films. At least the Scream series acknowledged that information and used it in a clever and creative way.

Clever and creative, not two words I would used to describe Harper's Island.

The series finale of Pushing Daises was on last night. We did get some closure, the aunts find out that Chuck is still alive, Olive finds happiness with Randy and opens up her own restaurant which specializes in Mac and Cheese, and Emerson's book, Little Miss Gumshoe, reunites him with his daughter. A great series that the writer's strike killed the momentum for. A comic book series has been reported to be coming out to continue the story. Worked for Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Thoughts: 13-June-2009

The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings in game 7 to win their third Stanley Cup. A major sports upset as the Red Wings were the heavy favorites. This makes my sister very happy as she is a Penguin and Steeler fan.

Boston beat the Phillies in the first game of their three game series. If the Red Sox continue to win in this series, I am convinced that if they had beaten Tampa Bay in game 7 of the AL Championship series, they would have beaten the Phillies.

The remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 starring John Travolta and Denzel Washington was pretty good. While the original was more suspenseful and less of an action thriller, this remake up the ante on action. And some changes in the characters help to update the story for modern times. I liked it.

Thoughts: 12-June-2009

The Boston Red Sox sweeped the New York Yankees for the third time this season. I went to bed at the 7th inning when the Yankees were leading 3-1. I figured that they would win, but this morning as I listened to the news, I was happy to discover the Red Sox scored in the 8th inning to win it. Way to go Red Sox.

Burn Notice is still producing real good shows, USA has quite the winner there.

The remake of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three is playing in Groton this weekend. I loved the original with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw and I like Denzil Washington, so I will check this out.

I have to go into work tomorrow, so that is all for now.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 11-June-2009

Red Sox won again, beating the hated Yankees 6-5. Can we go for 8-0 tonight and have our third sweep of the Yankees? Who knows, my gut tells me that the odds are against the Red Sox. But if they win, I will be very happy.

Watched Monsterquest last night about the Monkey Man of India. That show made the Bigfoot episodes look good. Instead of using a CGI effect to bring the monkey man alive in the reenactments, they went with some cheesy monkey costume. I have to wonder how this show stays on the air.

Showtime is already giving Nurse Jackie a second season. While I like the show, I am surprised that a renewal has already been done. Why couldn't Showtime do that for Dead Like Me?

American Chopper has a 90 minute episode with Jon and Kate + 8. I seem to be reading about Jon having an affair and Kate in a bikini keeps popping up in the National Enquirer and on the Superficial.com website. She looks good but somebody told me she is a real bitch to her husband on their show. Another TLC classic, I would never watch anything on TLC if it were not for American Chopper.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 10-June-2009

Good News.

Comedy Central is bringing Futurama back in 2010. All new episodes.

The Boston Red Sox defeated the hated Yankees last night to go 6-0 in this season's series, something that have not done since the Yankees were known as the Highlanders.

Nurse Jackie, the new series on Showtime, was very entertaining. Another hit for Showtime.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 09-June-2009

I have to fast tonight in order to have some blood work done tomorrow. I hate fasting, it always gives me hunger dreams where I start craving bad junk food.

I watched the season premiere of The Closer last night, pretty good show and quite chilling when we discovered who killed the family. One of the best shows on TV.

TNT is going to have a pretty good summer line up, The Closer and Raising the Bar on Monday night, then on Tuesday the new Jada Pinkett Smith show Hawthorne followed by Saving Grace. USA on Sunday night has Law & Order: Criminal Intent and In Plain Sight, with Burn Notice and Royal Pains on Thursday.

Who needs the major networks, I have four nights with five great shows, I will check out Hawthorne next week. And I have Weeds and Nurse Jackie on Showtime (10-11 pm Mondays) and True Blood on HBO (Sunday at 9 pm).

I am happy.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 08-June-2009

I watched a couple of good shows last night, both on USA network. Law& Order: Criminal Intent and In Plain Sight, better than what is on the major networks. This got me thinking about shows cancelled before their time.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (Fox) This was a great show that featured Bruce Campbell as Western Hero out to avenge the death of his father. SF elements and a Wild Wild West like twist. Another great show that Fox did not give a chance to, its last episodes were scheduled on Sunday at 7 pm to go against 60 Minutes.

Dead Like Me (Showtime) This wonderful series that starred Ellen Muth focused on the day to day life of reapers, people who collected souls for the hereafter just before they died. Well done with a great cast. I was shocked that Showtime cancelled this show, at least they got a second chance with a direct to DVD movie.

Farscape (Sci Fi Channel) This was the most popular series on the Sci Fi Channel, hell it made the Sci Fi channel a contender and it gets cancelled with a cliffhanger. At least a miniseries was made, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, to end the show. Currently the show leaves on in comic books.

Eleventh Hour (CBS) This show will be remembered as a great show that CBS cancelled for no good reason. I look for the DVD sales to be very good when it comes out.

Deadwood (HBO) I still do not understand how HBO could cancel this great show. Great cast with Timothy Oliphant and Ian McShane and so many others.

Until I hear that Reaper does not get a syndication deal, I will keep that show off this list. CW should have stuck with it, it too was cancelled before its time. Let's hope that it can live on in some form.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 07-June-2009

Surfing around the Internet, I was checking to see if any of my comic books were getting cancelled. I had read a couple last night and I had a feeling that they may be ending. Unfortunately Marvel Comics never comes out and says in a press release that a book is being cancelled.

So the current runs of Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, and the Immortal Iron Fist are going to be ending with a couple of limited series coming up to follow up. At least that is what I gather from the Internet. I was wondering how long these books would be out, now I know. I just wish that there was a good site to go to that would verify cancellation news without weeding through a bunch of stuff.

Of course, I cannot figure out how kids can afford comics nowadays. No longer 15 cents per issue.

Thoughts: 06-June-2009

Review time.

I just saw Up and Land of the Lost this afternoon. Up was very good, another winner from Disney/Pixar. The animated short before the main feature was called Partly Cloudy and was a cute tale of storks and how they get their babies, and the one stork who has to deliver the not so nice babes. Very nice.

Up was excellent, I love the tale of Carl fulfilling the wish of his dear departed wife Elle. Their relationship reminded me of why I was sad to see Norman and Bridget break up in My Cage. Two opposites who completed each other and when towards the end Carl discovers that their marriage together was the adventure she longed for, tears came to my eye. Great voice work by Ed Asner and the film was just a joy to see.

Land of the Lost was a nice spoof with Will Ferrell doing his usual shtick. I thought the interplay between Grumpy the T Rex and Ferrell's Rich Marshall was quite funny. I thought that there was quite a few laughs in the film, a bit drawn out at parts, but overall not bad. Check it out for light entertainment.

Royal Pains is the new USA network show that debuted this past Thursday. I liked it. Kind of reminded me of early episodes of House where the medical mystery was the show's emphasis. A nice blend of comedy and drama, I will be watching this show.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 05-June-2009

A honor for Life of VXG, Ed Power, the writer for My Cage, commented on my blog. First the fans of Reaper and now Ed Power. Thanks to all those who read, hopefully enjoy, and comment on this blog.

Season 3 premiere of Burn Notice was as enjoyable as ever. They are upping the stakes a bit as Michael Weston no longer has any protection. Should be an interesting season. The big question is why did they burn a spy who is that good and is very loyal to the USA?

Tomorrow I am planning on seeing Up and Land of the Lost. While I am not a big Will Ferrell fan. the trailer looks pretty funny to me. While the reviews have not been that good, I will take a chance and check it out.

Season finale of Law & Order had Jack neck and neck with his opponent for the DA job. He also mentioned to bring down the governor who has been a thorn in his side. Since Law & Order has been renewed for another season, Jack should be back as the DA. Great show.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 04-June-2009

The Boston Red Sox completed a three game sweep of the Tigers and all the Michigan transfers at work are very quiet. Boston is tied for first place with the hated Yankees.

I got my last print issue of Filmbobbery in today's mail. Robert Lenz is going to have a website www.filmbobbery.com were he will continue with his writing in a easier medium than print. Good luck Bob, I will miss your quarterly and look forward to your book on Gloria Grahame coming out.

Monsterquest had a terrible episode on Flying Monsters last night. Absolutely no real evidence at all, no footprints, no photos, just a video of some lights in the sky. What a waste, when are they going to find a fraking monster already?

Tonight Season 3 of Burn Notice starts on USA and the first episode of the new series Royal Pains. With last night's Law & Order season finale to watch, it should be a great night of TV.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 03-June-2009

Not much on TV tonight, a new Monsterquest with Flying Monsters as the theme. I saw some freaky videos on YouTube that featured strange flying creatures, I assume that they were faked.

Season Finale of Law & Order tonight, will Jack McCoy get elected as DA? Also a new episode of The Unusuals is on tonight. As both are 10 pm shows, I will record and watch tomorrow night. Yes I am a boring old fart who falls asleep by 10:30 pm during the week.

Next Week Perry Mason Season 4 Vol 1 is coming out. As formalistic as this series is, I can watch it over and over again. Watch the last two episodes of Season 1 last night.

Some Comic news and comments.

I really liked the Old Man Logan story that appeared in Wolverine. The conclusion will be coming out in a one shot special entitled Giant Sized Old Man Logan. If you are going to have multiple ongoing monthly comic books featuring the same character, mix it up and do stories like this. Keep it fresh and interesting.

I read the first issue of Power Girl recently. Supposedly there was a big demand for this DC character to star in her own book. Based on issue 1, I don't see this lasting too long. Much ado about nothing.

One of my favorite comic strips, My Cage, had the star character Norman break up with his girlfriend Bridget. I really liked the two characters and wonder why the comic creators did that? I like to see happy couples who get along in my fiction, Lord knows I don't see it much in reality. I like to believe that true love exists, at least in the fiction world that I immerse myself into for entertainment.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 02-June-2009

After watching the last few episodes of American Chopper and getting depressed, I was wondering what Vinnie and Cody were up to. They left OCC to start up their own shop, V Force Customs. They had a two bike debuts at some big shows and seemed to be doing well.

Then I found an interview with Vinnie where they are in talks with getting a TV show, one which would focus on bike building and not psychodrama like American Chopper. Discovery Channel is bringing back Monster Garage so maybe we will get to see Vinnie and Cody on their own TV show.

YouTube has a virtual tour of their shop and there is plenty of stuff that comes up when you google V Force Customs. Good luck to them both.

Oh well.

Thoughts: 01-June-2009

The first day of June, when summer starts to beckon. Meant a whole lot more when I was a kid in school than it does now as a full time worker.

Realms of Fantasy, which I previously had reported had been cancelled, is now officially saved. Tir Na Nog Press sent me a renewal request and the information that this magazine returns in early July. I am happy about this as this is one of the best fantasy fiction magazines out there.

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly had the top 20 shows for this recently concluded season. Six reality crap shows were in the top 20, 1 and 2 American Idol, 3 and 8 Dancing with the Stars (it appears that different nights have different ratings), 15 Survivor: Gabon and 17 Survivor: Tocantins. One sports presentation, 7 Sunday Night Football and one news show, 13 60 Minutes.

CBS has 11 spots, ABC has 4, Fox has 4, and NBC has one. Without a Trace came in at 18 and was cancelled by CBS. The Mentalist came in at 6 and was the only new show to make the top 20. The next highest rating for a new show was 22 for Eleventh Hour.

So why did Without a Trace and Eleventh Hour get cancelled? I know that there were concerns about Without a Trace productions costs, but at number 18 does it matter? And what the FRAK was Eleventh Hour cancelled? One season could not be that expensive already could it?

Only sitcom to make it was at 10 with Two and a Half Men. Does not look good for sitcoms.

All the top 20 shows with the exception of Without a Trace will be coming back, so some things make sense. I still do not understand why there is no outrage at CBS for cancelling Eleventh Hour. Check Google, tons of outrage for Reaper, but none for a show that came in at 22. CW and NBC would kill for those ratings. I don't get it.

Oh well.
