Thoughts: 19-April-2009

Great day, the Red Sox are winning and out of last place and the Yankees got killed with the worst inning in their history by the Indians yesterday. For some strange bizarre reason, both the Sporting News and Sports Illustrated had the Yankees winning the division. They have no starting pitching, Joba got rocked, Wang is 0-3, CC looks terrible. And that bullpen is killing them. The Red Sox have this amazing depth in pitching, but the Yankees were going to do better than them according the to sports experts? I laugh at them.

I went to see State of Play yesterday, the new Russell Crowe film directed by Kevin MacDonald. Very good movie with a strong cast and well written story. Some nice twists and turns in the movie. If you like things about reporters investigating and breaking a story, such as All the President's Men or Ron Howard's underrated film, The Paper, check it out.

TV.com reports that the creators of Reaper, Michelle Fazekas and Tara Butters, have signed a deal to develop TV series for a rival studio. Another nail in the cancellation coffin for Reaper. The show has improved this season with it biggest weakness, poor character development of Sam, Sock, and Ben, but it may be too late. Poor ratings killed this show.

Also from TV.com, Mary Louise Parker may be leaving Weeds when her contract ends. Season 5 will be starting soon, and she is signed through Season 6. I have watched every episode of this show and while I find it entertaining, I never understood the raves this show gets. I think it is average at best.

Naked News Weekend Magazine for today reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar is in talks to play Buffy in a movie version. Outside of the two Scooby Doo films and The Grudge (which I thought was a terrible film), she has not been too successful. I can see why she wants to go back to her biggest hit. David Boreanaz who played Angel in the series is doing well with Bones, Alyson Hannigan has a hit show with How I Met your Mother, and Anthony Stewart Head is popping up in a number of British productions. The one guy I thought would be doing well, is Nicholas Brendon, have not seen him in anything lately. As for Joss Whedon, I hope he can make a decent Buffy film, given the crap that he is turning out with Dollhouse.

Oh well.

  1. The ratings in general rank Reaper as one of the top CW shows. The female 18-34 ratings unfortunately rank it at the bottom.

However, the show is not dead yet. While the creators leaving doesn't look good for Reaper, you can still let the CW know you want the show to continue even without them.

Please don't stay silent. They'll never know how much you'd like Reaper to stay if you never tell them. Executive Producer Tom Spezialy's still around, and lots of shows do just fine even after a change in the guards.

Domestic fans: since snail mail campaigns work best, here's the address for Dawn Ostroff at the CW:
