Paranormal Psudoscience: Debunked

It seems every time I watch the History Channel, I see UFO Files, Monsterquest, and specials on things like ancient astronauts. Show after show pushing one side of the paranormal and pseudoscience without almost no time allotted to the skeptical view. Here is my rundown of the skeptical view.

First there are two great magazines, The Skeptical Inquirer put out by the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry and Skeptic put out by the Skeptic's Society. Both magazines do a great job in present an alternative to the paranormal nonsense out there.

Skeptic feature James Randi, a magician who has debunked a lot of phony psychics. One book that he has written, entitled Flim Flam! Psychics, ESP, Unicorns and other Delusions is a nice over view of an assortment of topics from UFOs to Psychics to Ancient Astronauts.

Bermuda Triangle: Lawrence David Kusche has written an excellent book, The Bermuda Triangle Mystery Solved, that totally debunks this topic. He does a lot of research and has the facts to back him up.

Uri Geller: James Randi exposed this guy in The Truth about Uri Geller.

Ancient Astronauts Theory: Two good books, Crash Go the Chariots by Clifford Wilson and The Space Gods Revealed by Ronald Story do an nice job in debunking this theory. Randi, in Flim Flam, has a great chapter debunking this too.

Loch Ness Monster: The Loch Ness Monster: The Evidence by Steuart Campbell and The Loch Ness Mystery Solved by Ronald Binns are sources for alternatives to the theories about Nessie.

UFOs: A pet peeve that I encountered on the Internet are these know it alls who get all in your face that UFO stands for unidentified flying object and not alien space ships. Then they precede to buy all the UFO crap being proposed. Philip Klass wrote several books debunking the various UFO theories, two I liked are UFOs The Public Deceived and UFOs Explained.

JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories: Same nitpickers I mentioned about, also post about the various conspiracy theories out there, focusing on minute details. Two books Case Closed by Gerald Posner and Reclaiming History: The assassination of JFK by Vincent Buglingi puts all these theories to rest.

Oh well.
