Surfing around the Internet, I was checking to see if any of my comic books were getting cancelled. I had read a couple last night and I had a feeling that they may be ending. Unfortunately Marvel Comics never comes out and says in a press release that a book is being cancelled.
So the current runs of Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, and the Immortal Iron Fist are going to be ending with a couple of limited series coming up to follow up. At least that is what I gather from the Internet. I was wondering how long these books would be out, now I know. I just wish that there was a good site to go to that would verify cancellation news without weeding through a bunch of stuff.
Of course, I cannot figure out how kids can afford comics nowadays. No longer 15 cents per issue.
Oh well.

Review time.
I just saw Up and Land of the Lost this afternoon. Up was very good, another winner from Disney/Pixar. The animated short before the main feature was called Partly Cloudy and was a cute tale of storks and how they get their babies, and the one stork who has to deliver the not so nice babes. Very nice.
Up was excellent, I love the tale of Carl fulfilling the wish of his dear departed wife Elle. Their relationship reminded me of why I was sad to see Norman and Bridget break up in My Cage. Two opposites who completed each other and when towards the end Carl discovers that their marriage together was the adventure she longed for, tears came to my eye. Great voice work by Ed Asner and the film was just a joy to see.
Land of the Lost was a nice spoof with Will Ferrell doing his usual shtick. I thought the interplay between Grumpy the T Rex and Ferrell's Rich Marshall was quite funny. I thought that there was quite a few laughs in the film, a bit drawn out at parts, but overall not bad. Check it out for light entertainment.
Royal Pains is the new USA network show that debuted this past Thursday. I liked it. Kind of reminded me of early episodes of House where the medical mystery was the show's emphasis. A nice blend of comedy and drama, I will be watching this show.

A honor for Life of VXG, Ed Power, the writer for My Cage, commented on my blog. First the fans of Reaper and now Ed Power. Thanks to all those who read, hopefully enjoy, and comment on this blog.
Season 3 premiere of Burn Notice was as enjoyable as ever. They are upping the stakes a bit as Michael Weston no longer has any protection. Should be an interesting season. The big question is why did they burn a spy who is that good and is very loyal to the USA?
Tomorrow I am planning on seeing Up and Land of the Lost. While I am not a big Will Ferrell fan. the trailer looks pretty funny to me. While the reviews have not been that good, I will take a chance and check it out.
Season finale of Law & Order had Jack neck and neck with his opponent for the DA job. He also mentioned to bring down the governor who has been a thorn in his side. Since Law & Order has been renewed for another season, Jack should be back as the DA. Great show.

The Boston Red Sox completed a three game sweep of the Tigers and all the Michigan transfers at work are very quiet. Boston is tied for first place with the hated Yankees.
I got my last print issue of Filmbobbery in today's mail. Robert Lenz is going to have a website www.filmbobbery.com were he will continue with his writing in a easier medium than print. Good luck Bob, I will miss your quarterly and look forward to your book on Gloria Grahame coming out.
Monsterquest had a terrible episode on Flying Monsters last night. Absolutely no real evidence at all, no footprints, no photos, just a video of some lights in the sky. What a waste, when are they going to find a fraking monster already?
Tonight Season 3 of Burn Notice starts on USA and the first episode of the new series Royal Pains. With last night's Law & Order season finale to watch, it should be a great night of TV.

Not much on TV tonight, a new Monsterquest with Flying Monsters as the theme. I saw some freaky videos on YouTube that featured strange flying creatures, I assume that they were faked.
Season Finale of Law & Order tonight, will Jack McCoy get elected as DA? Also a new episode of The Unusuals is on tonight. As both are 10 pm shows, I will record and watch tomorrow night. Yes I am a boring old fart who falls asleep by 10:30 pm during the week.
Next Week Perry Mason Season 4 Vol 1 is coming out. As formalistic as this series is, I can watch it over and over again. Watch the last two episodes of Season 1 last night.
Some Comic news and comments.
I really liked the Old Man Logan story that appeared in Wolverine. The conclusion will be coming out in a one shot special entitled Giant Sized Old Man Logan. If you are going to have multiple ongoing monthly comic books featuring the same character, mix it up and do stories like this. Keep it fresh and interesting.
I read the first issue of Power Girl recently. Supposedly there was a big demand for this DC character to star in her own book. Based on issue 1, I don't see this lasting too long. Much ado about nothing.
One of my favorite comic strips, My Cage, had the star character Norman break up with his girlfriend Bridget. I really liked the two characters and wonder why the comic creators did that? I like to see happy couples who get along in my fiction, Lord knows I don't see it much in reality. I like to believe that true love exists, at least in the fiction world that I immerse myself into for entertainment.

After watching the last few episodes of American Chopper and getting depressed, I was wondering what Vinnie and Cody were up to. They left OCC to start up their own shop, V Force Customs. They had a two bike debuts at some big shows and seemed to be doing well.
Then I found an interview with Vinnie where they are in talks with getting a TV show, one which would focus on bike building and not psychodrama like American Chopper. Discovery Channel is bringing back Monster Garage so maybe we will get to see Vinnie and Cody on their own TV show.
YouTube has a virtual tour of their shop and there is plenty of stuff that comes up when you google V Force Customs. Good luck to them both.

Thoughts: 01-June-2009
The first day of June, when summer starts to beckon. Meant a whole lot more when I was a kid in school than it does now as a full time worker.
Realms of Fantasy, which I previously had reported had been cancelled, is now officially saved. Tir Na Nog Press sent me a renewal request and the information that this magazine returns in early July. I am happy about this as this is one of the best fantasy fiction magazines out there.
The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly had the top 20 shows for this recently concluded season. Six reality crap shows were in the top 20, 1 and 2 American Idol, 3 and 8 Dancing with the Stars (it appears that different nights have different ratings), 15 Survivor: Gabon and 17 Survivor: Tocantins. One sports presentation, 7 Sunday Night Football and one news show, 13 60 Minutes.
CBS has 11 spots, ABC has 4, Fox has 4, and NBC has one. Without a Trace came in at 18 and was cancelled by CBS. The Mentalist came in at 6 and was the only new show to make the top 20. The next highest rating for a new show was 22 for Eleventh Hour.
So why did Without a Trace and Eleventh Hour get cancelled? I know that there were concerns about Without a Trace productions costs, but at number 18 does it matter? And what the FRAK was Eleventh Hour cancelled? One season could not be that expensive already could it?
Only sitcom to make it was at 10 with Two and a Half Men. Does not look good for sitcoms.
All the top 20 shows with the exception of Without a Trace will be coming back, so some things make sense. I still do not understand why there is no outrage at CBS for cancelling Eleventh Hour. Check Google, tons of outrage for Reaper, but none for a show that came in at 22. CW and NBC would kill for those ratings. I don't get it.
